- Again with the technique.....when using an easy-out....yes, use the biggest drill bit you can but in order to center the hole start out with a smaller drill bit and tweak your centering operation. Move that drill motor around until you have the extractor "PILOT HOLE": centered as nearly perfect as you can. Then step up the hole with larger and larger drill bits until you have it as large as you can. Hollow out as much of the stuck fastener as you can. The larger the easy-out the better. Comparing the easy-out to the drill bit for sizing purposes.....doesn't matter because the easy-out is tapered. Drill the stuck fastener and then select an easy-out to match the operation.
