Known for their distinctive sound, these supercharged 2-stroke diesel GM "screaming jimmy" engines powered various makes and models of trucks and heavy machinery worldwide across several decades. The massive V12 Detroit diesel features a mechanical roots-style blower prominently positioned atop the engine. While commonly referred to as a supercharger in Australia, its primary function in this application isn't to introduce "boost" into the cylinders but rather to assist in expelling exhaust gases.

These iconic 2-stroke GM Diesels or Detroit Diesels once dominated a wide array of heavy machinery, transportation, and marine applications for nearly half a century.
